International Conference on Water Resources Security and Climate Change
05/03/2021From 1st to 4th, March, 2021, the Vietnam Academy for Water Resources in collaboration with the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, the University of Hohenheim, the University of Braunschweig organized an international online conference on Water Security and Climate change with a number of sessions at the headquarters of the Vietnam Academy for Water Resources and the Hoa Lac Research and Training Centre.
This workshop is part of Water Security and Climate Change seminars held at the Asian Institute of Technology - AIT (2016), University of Cologne (2017), Kennyatta University - Nairobi (2018), University of San Luis Potosi – Mexico (2019). The workshop is sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation, the Exceed Program.

Themes of this year's conference focused on i) climate change and urban water management; ii) Nature-based solutions to improve the resilience of water systems; iii) Spatial research tools applied in water resource management; iv) Improve water productivity; v) Meteorological and hydrological risks in Southeast Asia and operation of water resource systems, disaster risk forecasting. In addition, the workshop spent a special session to discuss water management and proactively respond to land and water management issues in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam with the participation of international scientists from research and development agencies and institutes and universities in the Mekong Delta.
The conference Hanoi was held with the participation of researchers from the VAWR and international organizations in Vietnam such as WB Vietnam, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Deltares - Netherlands. The plenary speakers of the conference are renowned scientists and managers from the International Water Institute, United Nations University, the Mekong River Commission (MRC), the Australian Government's Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organization.

This conference was organized with 20 sessions and more than 170 speakers, more than 800 delegates for the sessions. The leaders of VAWR, the co-host of the conference, gave the opening speech to welcome scientists and organizations and look forward to greater cooperation opportunities from international scientists and related development organizations in the field of water resources, irrigation, agriculture and natural disasters management and development in Vietnam. At the same time, they also wish to obtain the support from scientists, research institutes to carry out research and training projects at the Research and Training Centre of the VAWR in Hoa Lac.
