SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES

As the representative in southern Vietnam, the field of Institue’ activities are complex, covering irrigation, environment, land use, water resources, fisheries, river training, coastal engineering, and hydraulic construction technology.

FEATURED PRODUCTS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The Institute has had significant contribution to the social and economic development in the Mekong Delta, the Southeast region as:

-  Database system on acidification-salinitation development, warning salinity intrusion for Mekong river delta;

- Scientific & technological solutions for river erosion protection, flood release for Mekong Delta, Sai Gon - Dong Nai river.

-  Irrigation solutions for aquaculture, land reclamation, environmental protection;

-  Deacidification, desalination, planning for sustainable agricultural production contributed to the Mekong Delta to be a granary currently.

- Water storage solutions, water loss reduction;

- Flooding prevention measures for Ho Chi Minh City;

- Rubber dam technology has been applied at national scale;

- Design and construction technology, assembled by pre-stressed reinforced concrete structures has been applied to many projects in the Mekong Delta;

- New materials technology in the construction of irrigation works on the soft ground, sea dike, embankments;

- Advanced water saving irrigation technology for drought area, focus on high economic value crops;

- Flood mapping of typhoon and super typhoon, flood maps of river basin in downstream after reservoirs.

DEVELOPMENT TREND

- Solving water problem for the Mekong Delta in order to stabilize potential land of food exports, seafood, fruits, ranking at top of the country in new context of climate change- sea level rise;

- Proposing disaster reduction measures, flood, river bank erosion, coastal, declining water shortages;
- Application and transfer of research results and technology in accordance with the conditions of the Delta with high economic value;

- Expanding cooperation with other countries and international organizations in research, science and technology transfer, training to improve professional issues.
